Working to protect the
Lower Portneuf Valley Aquifer
and to promote renewable energy in
Southeast Idaho
The Portneuf Resource Council (PRC) works to build sustainable communities that balance economic opportunity with the health of people and the stewardship of our natural environment. Our efforts focus on the Portneuf River Valley, including the city of Pocatello and the surrounding communities. PRC is actively engaged in initiatives that promote climate solutions and clean water, helping ensure a healthy and resilient region for current and future generations.
Clean Energy and Electrification
PRC advocates for the rapid adoption of clean, renewable energy and promotes electrification for a cleaner future that saves the community money.
Southeast Idaho Energy and Property Alliance - As part of this alliance, PRC is working with our Bannock County Commissioners to enact an ordinance that allows farmers to lease their land for solar power. We believe that landowners deserve the right to make decisions about how their land is used to benefit their families and communities. We believe the public deserves fact-based, well-informed decision making. A new ordinance would allow responsibly sited and developed clean energy. Annual Electric Car Show in September - Since 2021, PRC has invited electric car owners, non-profits, companies that make charging stations, and the public to this annual show. Powered by electricity from a Ford F150, we have speeches from the Pocatello Mayor, legislative representatives, and others who are interested in electric cars. Recent shows have included more than 20 different cars!

Put Water First
For us, this means taking a systematic view of drinking water source and watershed security that considers water quality and quantity as well as human and ecosystem health. PRC members are working with local officials to implement programs and policies that protect the Lower Portneuf Valley Aquifer and the Portneuf River watershed for the people, ecosystems, businesses and economies of Pocatello and surrounding communities.

Sustainable Idaho
Sustainable Idaho is a locally produced program aired and streamed by KISU, a National Public Radio affiliate station with studios at Idaho State University. The show explores a wide range of locally important sustainability topics. Our hosts consider three key pillars of sustainability: the economic, societal, and environmental aspects and why these matter to Idahoans.
